Earlier in the year it became apparent to members of Stone Community First Responders (CFR’s) that necessary consumable parts for their existing defibrillator were becoming obsolete and extremely difficult to obtain. Therefore a fundraising campaign was started to purchase a new replacement machine.
Lilley Moor and the Hillderstone village hall committee were kind enough to jump in and offer their help with the fundraising and proceeded to organise a coffee morning and cake sale raising a very healthy £600 towards the £3600 required for the new defibrillator that would enable the CFR’s to complete ECG’s as well as defibrillate both adult and paediatric patients. Soon after the village hall committee and Lilley also successfully organised a Barn Dance and promise auction. Everyone had a great time at the dance and bidding was brisk for the auction of goods and services kindly donated by the local residents, friends and businesses. A total of £1,120 was raised on the night and when added to donations already made through crowd funding and Simon of Next Level Fitness the new defibrillator was purchased.
The Stone CFR’s are a group of volunteers, but defiantly not armature local people trained by and working alongside West Midlands Ambulance Service to provide life saving interventions in emergency situations until the arrival of an ambulance. They are dispatched to a variety of 999 calls that can include, cardiac arrest, breathing problems, strokes, and major trauma, cases where time is critical.
