Haughton Village Hall Committee has used the funds to buy and install a public access defibrillator at the Newport Road community centre.
Last week Paul Mulvey from defibrillator supplier Wel Medical handed over the medical kit, which is used to administer vital treatment in the event of cardiac arrest, and gave a free demonstration of CPR and defibrillator use to village hall users including parish councillors, WI and garden guild members.
He said: “The quicker you can deliver the first shock, the better. You want to use the defibrillator while there is still electrical activity in the heart.
“If you leave it for eight or 10 minutes there is less electrical activity and the probability of resuscitation gets less and less.”
The village hall defibrillator will be housed in a case in the smaller meeting room and available for use when the hall is open. Other village public access defibrillators are located at the Shropshire Inn, the Bell Inn and the shopping area on Newport Road.
