A COMMUNITY defibrillator has been provided by Droitwich Spa Nursery and Kindergarten which worked with the town’s AED group to put it in place.
The nursery, celebrating its 25th anniversary in the Spa this year, took the decision after a refresher first aid course.
The managers’ idea was backed by owner Philippa Fell who, before starting the nursery in 1993, was a local health visitor and midwife.
Pete Richards from Droiwich AED provided information in July 2017 and the nursery started fund-raising at its grandparents’ afternoon in August.
The £1,000 target was reached in December after more events including coffee mornings, cake sales, raffles and dressing up days.
The defibrillator was installed on the nursery’s building by Richard Lawrence from electrical contractors George Installation Services and is now operational and available for the community to use.
The defib will be available during the nursery’s opening times, from Monday to Friday from 7.15am to 8.30pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 4pm.
Instructions will be given when those who need to use it call the ambulance service.
The nursery thanked parents and carers for their fund-raising support and Mr Richards for his support and training.
