NEW life saving device has been installed in Grays after the community banded together to purchase a defibrillator.
Residents from Premier Avenue, Northolme Close, Claremont Close and Turp Avenue joined members of Socketts Heath Baptist Church to launch a new public access Defibrillator.
This life-saving device can now be found in a cabinet on the outside wall of the church building and is available for anyone in the community who faces a life or death emergency.
The money for the defibrillator was donated by residents along with some businesses and shops as well as the church.
The launch was attended by Zoe Tydeman from Chafford Hundred Community First Responder team who spoke about the role defibrillators can play in an emergency.
She said: “The quicker you can get a device to a patient the better the chance of saving their life.
“Having a Public Access Defibrillator available nearby can be the difference between life and death.”
Speaking at the event, the rev Ashley Lovett, the minister of Socketts Heath, thanked the residents and local businesses for their generous support.
He said: “It really warms my heart when people come together to make a difference for their neighbours,”
“Of course, I hope nobody here ever needs to use the defib, but by making it available to our community we might just have helped save someone’s life.”
